Base Philippines, the local community supporting the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base, celebrated its first anniversary as an education-focused organization.

Held at the Coins.ph office in Taguig City, the event doubled as a Lunar New Year celebration, which gathered builders, students, and industry leaders to reflect on a year of rapid grassroots adoption.

In his presentation, Country Manager Eli Becislao revealed that in just 12 months, the local chapter has scaled significantly:

  • 100+ Events hosted across 50 cities and municipalities.
  • 40+ University Partners helping students create blockchain projects and join hackathons.
  • 1,500 Builder Pipelines established (standardized frameworks for automating app construction and deployment).
  • $150,000 Cumulative Impact on the local crypto industry.
  • 20 Job Opportunities created, ranging from community management to smart contract development.

“There is no Base Philippines if not because of you. You make Base Philippines what it is today. So, thank you so much to all our partners, to builders who are continuously building on Base, and to talents who are sharing opportunities with the community. Thank you so much, everyone. This celebration is for you.”

Regional Support

The celebration was bolstered by the presence of Nick See Tong, the Base APAC Regional Lead, who flew in to join the festivities. Together with Becislao, he led a ceremonial wine toast to mark the community’s success.

Tong was recently interviewed by BitPinas:

In the spirit of the Lunar New Year, the event also featured a traditional Lion and Dragon Dance, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead as the community looks to expand its footprint.

Airdrop Hints?

Becislao encouraged attendees to stay active on the Base App (formerly Coinbase Wallet) and complete in-app tasks. He hinted that engaging with the wallet could be a key criterion for eligibility if a native BASE token is launched in the future.
